There are many essential oils and supplements from Young Living that can support the physical and emotional well-being of animals and their owners. After interviewing Dr. Nancy Brandt, DVM, the leading national authority on using high quality therapeutic grade essential oils with animals, we learned the following highlights.

As with humans, pets require oils that suit their individual body chemistry and composition. What works on one animal, might be different for another. There are also some combinations of oils that work universally.

In aromatherapy for animals, a little goes a long way. Hydrosol essential waters are the diluted form of an essential oil to mist or pat on the animal’s back. Lavender Essential Water is excellent for balancing your pet’s moods. A calm pet is a healthy pet. Purification Oil dispels fear and negativity and can be used for pet odors in the home or office. It can also be used on insect bites to tone down the effect. Dr. Brandt recommends diluting the essential oils with Young Living V-6 Oil.

Exodus Oil and Raindrop Technique can enormously support the immune system of your dog, horse or goat. It is imperative to avoid the phenol and ketone oils for cats, as they don’t tolerate these oils well. (example: Sage, Cedarwood, Savory, etc.). Melissa Essential Water is a definite favorite for balancing your feline. For fleas, mist the animal 2-3 times a day with a mixture of 30 drops distilled water and 20 drops Cedarwood and Lemongrass. For sores and infections, use Melrose and Animal Scents Ointment.

Animals also respond to Young Living supplements, especially enzymes, Sulfurzyme and Power Meal to build up a tired system. Berry Young Juice, VitaGreen and other YL supplements all can build up a depleted, nutrient deficient system. Mix supplements with pet’s food, depending on animal’s weight and professional guidelines.

As for optimum diet, Dr. Brandt recommends an organic raw food diet. She said that almost all commercial foods are heavily coated with flavoring just to get the animal to eat it. You can check out some natural cuisine guidelines at Barfword.com (BARF=Bio-Available Raw Foods). As for rawhide chew toys, Dr. Brandt said for an animal to ingest these would be the equivalent to a human devouring a sofa – not compatible to our sensitive digestive tract! Young Living and Essential Science Publishing publish several excellent books, videotapes and cassettes on holistic animal care. (www.youngliving.com and www.essentialscience.net).

As with humans, avoid all chemicals found in cleaning supplies (especially floor cleaners right a pet’s breathing level), shampoos, deodorizers, etc. These chemicals damage liver, kidney, lung and brain cells. Just as human cancers have increased with our excess use of and exposure to dangerous chemicals, so has animal disease increased. Use the best, safest cleaning and grooming supplies such as Young Living’s Thieves Cleaner, Thieves Spray and the new PetScent Shampoo and Animal Scents Ointment for first aid. You and your animal deserve to enjoy life in the peak of health!

The most significant contribution to healing lies in the emotional arena. Pets absorb our emotional energy. Thus, in a home where there is an excess of anger, your animal might eventually exhibit signs of stress. For example, if an owner has created an excessively acid system, based on stress, food choices and/or outlook, the pet might equally exhibit an overly acidic system. Emotions can be measured molecularly, capable of greatly affecting not only our mental state, but also our physiology. Both owner and pet would greatly benefit from massage, Reiki or other relaxing energetic remedies and use of the correct YL essential oils to provide the optimum emotional climate in the home for all who live there!

Finally, Dr. Brandt emphatically recommends that disorders need to be evaluated on an individual basis. Just as humans have a variety of causes for digestive disturbances, skin disorders, asthma, sinus problems and stress, so do animals. Dr. Brandt offers highly valuable veterinary medicine related phone consultations. You can call for an appointment at 1-702-617-3285.

Read as much as you can about holistic animal care and pure, unadulterated essential oils. There are many articles on the web about aromatherapy including www.aromanoles.com. Remember to only use Grade A, research-tested, therapeutically rated essential oils. Enjoy your pet and celebrate with your beloved animal friends this year.
