Essential oils and cats

Shadrach the Neo Mastiff
Arrrooo, fellow pets and humans! Okay, here we go again havin’ to talk ’bout cats but mom likes em so I guess it’s okay. Well I’ve got a couple of good cat buddies here so it’s all good, WOOF! Leigh, the woman who is sharing her cat knowledge with us today, helps ALL animals too just like Mom. Mom is better with dogs though and Leigh is good with cats, arrooooo! Just the way it is. They both luv us fur and feather kind but well, different folks have different abilities. Of course, you can’t all be Mastiffs who are the best at everything so you just have to be satisifed with what you are good at! WOOF! Here’s my man Calvin to intro Leigh for us…..

Yo Shadrach, sup? Hey, this sounds pretty cool about the oils and all. Been having us a time with these doggone (no pun intended dude) fleas down here in South Texas. We’re out in the country too so all the local pests think they can just come on in our home and take up resident in me, Tiger Man, Sassy (my cat homies), the Boogies (5 ferret homies) and the birds (yum, 2 of those). So let’s hear what Leigh has to say about getting rid of these pests!

Essential oils and cats

Hi, My name is Leigh and I have 2 degrees in Veterinary medicine. I
have been doing research for over a year on the effects of the Young
Living Oils
on animals and am working on a paper to have published.

There is no reason at all that these oils (used diluted and within
reason) can not be used on animals of ALL kinds. I have used the
oils mainly to tame down farrel kitties with GREAT success and n
casualties. My cats respond to most of the oils-including
peppermint. I start them off with a highly diluted mixture and
increase the oil content each week until I feel it is to the
strength that I want it. ALWAYS start out highly diluting the oils
with the cats. If they squint their eyes, then the mixture is to
strong. I stay away from citrus oils on cats, but the dogs love
it. I do use Peace and Calming on my cats, again, highly diluted.
It boils down to paying attention to your pet and what your PET
wants. If they squint, then that’s a sign that the oil is too
strong. My cats really like Valor diluted and gently rubbed on
their paws. They relax right down and aren’t so skiddish. I dilute
it 1 drop valor to 7-10 drops of V6 oil. This does all the paws.

Dogs love these oils too.
When I first came to the JOYgroup, I came with the intention to
write this paper and to help animals. That is all I have ever
wanted to do with my life and I would never do anything that would
bring harm to any living creature. Bill helped me out by pointing
me in the direction of the archives and I found a world of
information there. Since I have joined the group, I have answered
many questions regarding animals and oils. I would like to suggest
to you that you take the time to go through the archives and type in
key words such as “animals and oils” and so forth and read all the
wonderful stories and comments from myself as well as other animal
lovers in the Joy community. Once you have done that, if you still
have questions, please feel free to email me and I’ll be more than
happy to try to answer them.

Thank you Bill for your help and pointing me in the correct
direction to help me be able to help the animals. It doesn’t sound
like you’ve been thanked very much for the help you have given.
Thank you. Without your help, I wouldn’t have had a place to start.

Sincerely,
Leigh

More from Leigh on cats…

They are even extremely different as individuals, that is why one must ALWAYS start a cat with diffusion in the air first to see how the cat reacts to certain oils. This is crucial, because what works for one cat, another may have a deadly reaction to it!Then go to a heavily diluted version of the oil they wish to use on the cat. Signs to look for: squinting of the eyes (this means it is toostrong), confusion, extreme sleepiness after being exposed to the oils, disorientation, vomiting, acting drunk, or extremely violent.

If any of these occur, discontinue use of the oil and email me immediately with the type of oils used and length of use. I would enjoy chatting with you or anyone wanting more information on oils and cats. I personally take care of 15 cats, 4 dogs, and a chinchilla here in my home and have lots of experience with oils and cats. Even my friends are coming to me for help with their animals and I use oils on them. I am treating on cat for BB shots in her hind legs and we can’t get the BBs out and they are causing an infection in the worst way. She can’t afford a Vet bill, so I am using Purification on the legs and covering it up with the Animal Scents Ointment. I am hoping it will draw out the BBs in time as well as heal the infection. So far I have 100% improvement in the legs and the infection is almost in control.

Well, to add to that note, the cat is completely healed with all her fur gown back. I was unsure if she would have hair there after it healed, but after the infection was cleared up, I started her on lavender oil straight and no scar, lots of hair, VERY healthy cat!

WOOF, thank you Leigh fur your sage advice and Calvin fur co-hosting today! I LUV my oils! Hope you decide to start using them on your pets too. After what you’re gonna learn on MRSA and the essential oils, I’m sure most of you will start using them! Oh and please don’t forget to make your pledge for the Blogathon 2005 for the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Just find me and mom under “Kim Bloomer/ Bark ‘n’ Blog/International Fund for Animal Welfare” under “View Campaigns”.
